Writing this book was a heckuva an experience. I got to pan for gold in Coloma, California, right where the 49ers did it! I found out lots of interesting stuff like the Mormans blazing the trail west. And I got access to the diary of a dude from the Ohio who went west in 1849 to seek his fortune and got more than he bargained for.
